Enterprise Architecture and Alignment of IT and Business

I just read a post by Nick on Inside Architecture and I agree that what he comments on is the reality for most shops. However, I disagree with his last sentence. Maybe it's just semantics and I am misreading what he is saying.

I think that the primary duty of Enterprise Architecture is to BE that voice. It's the architects job to recognize the problem, whether it be with the business or with technology, and to find proper alignment of the two to solve the problem creating value. Enterprise Architecture MUST be the voice to communicate this, sometimes, no many times, repeatedly.

I'll rephrase Nick's last two sentences to be what I can agree with:

"Without leadership that listens, this cannot change. Until it does, Enterprise Architecture must keep on speaking up and selling the vision."
