This morning, I ran my first 6 miler. It felt good and the weather was cool
(low 50s). I ran on the local Greenway in town and finished the 6 miles in 57
minutes 30 seconds. The second 3 miles was about 3 minutes faster than the
first half, so I feel good about starting to learn to control my pace (I was
aiming for a 10 minute/mile pace). Previously when I have run off the
treadmill and no longer have a machine to dictate the pace to me, I have run
way too fast, which makes for miserable runs (as I can't hold that pace for
any distance that I am trying to run).
This totals a 17 mile week. Not bad, since my goal was 15 miles for the week.
I would like to eventually get up to 25 mile weeks, peeking with 30 miles on
occasion. I will likely not have time for any more miles, unless I get
faster! So my first incremental goal to that step will be to get to 20 mile
weeks and hold that milage for 3 to 4 weeks, before doing the 10% increments
to get to 25. I am going to try to hold to 15+ miles for 2 to 3 weeks, before
bumping it up to get to the 20 mile threshold.
