"Neal ...Did you anticipate there would be 260,000 thousand irate phone calls to Congress the first week, from cancer patients, nursing homes, and hospitals? "
No nation has ever taxed nursing home patients , or cancer surgery, or kidney dailysis. Strange as it sounds -- Fiartax is trying to do just that.
If Fairtax ever passed -- for the first time in US history -- probably the first time in world history -- cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, all health care would have to pay a 30% tax.
One cancer patient could get a tax bill of 40,000 dollars on their surgery, chemo, and rehab. One nursing home patient could pay 30,000 tax, just for staying in a nursing home.
The parents of one childhood leukemia could get a sales tax bill of 50,000 dollars for trying to keep their child alive.
In fact, people who get medical care would have to pay a combined 460 billion in "sales taxes" under the proposed "Fairtax."
America would have 15 million really upset cancer victims, 2 million really upset nursing home patients, and 50 million really upset other patients.
What will happen when millions of these people find out out the Fairtax wasn't so fair after all ?
They will scream bloody murder --- mostly at their Congressman and Senators. Plus, they will demand the people who sold them on Fairtax answer a few questions.
Neal Boortz could be interviewed on "The No Spin Zone" with Bill O'Reilly. Their discussion could go something like this ......
Bill OReilly " Neal, welcome to the Factor....Did you anticipate there would be 160,000 thousand phone calls the first week, from cancer patients, nursing homes, and hospitals?
Neal: "Well, Bill, you know I am just a talk show host. We told everyone there would be a sales tax on medical cost, you can't please everyone. "
OReilly " Neal, you told everyone the Fairtax virtually elminates taxes, we have the clip right here." (plays clip)
Boortz "That's right Bill -- Fairtax gets rid of the tax burden. This will help everyone, let me assure you."
OReilly: " Neal. What you did was SHIFT taxes -- not get rid of them. The cancer patients we interviewed got a TAX bill of $40,000 tax on her surgery and chemo."
Boortz: "Bill -- don't blame the messenger. I didn't invent Fairtax, I just had the wisdom to name it, and sell books about it. "
OReilly: " Listen Neal -- no one taxes nursing home patients, pal. Or cancer surgery. Come on! What were you thinking?"
Boortz: "Bill thats right, this is a brilliant new plan. Look at the bright side -- these folks would get to keep their entire paychecks."
OReilly screaming: "Entire paychecks! The 80year old cancer victim doesnt even HAVE a paycheck. Are you kidding me?"
